The Rockland Bicycling Club (RBC) collects personal information for use in running the club. This information is required to perform club functions such as mailing and e-mailing of newsletters.

RBC collects your name, address, phone number, and other optional information such as, but not limited to, e-mail address, ride level preferences, and volunteer status. If you participate in a club ride, we will ask you to sign a release and provide your name, signature, and emergency phone number.

The Membership Officer is responsible for the collection, maintenance, and accuracy of all personal information collected in association with membership activities by RBC.

The Ride Captain is responsible for collecting release forms containing personal information. Release forms are only used for "ride leader incentives" (a bonus program) and insurance issues, and the personal information contained on the release forms is not used by the club for any other purpose.

RBC does not release personal information to commercial interests. RBC may, at the discretion of the Executive Board, release personal information to non-commercial groups who wish to contact our current and/or former members for cycling related activities. The personal information is only released for one time use. RBC will never release e-mail addresses to third parties for any reason.

E-mail addresses are not distributed to members, but a member may contact another member via e-mail using a mechanism on our web site that does not disclose the recipient's e-mail address. If a member chooses to use this mechanism, the contacted member will see the sender's e-mail address.

Members can volunteer to become Ride Leaders, and lead rides for the club.  All scheduled rides are posted on our public web site.  We publish the leader's name, and phone number (if supplied by the member and the member has explicitly not opted out of displaying their phone number).  If a ride leader has supplied RBC with an e-mail address in order to use our web-based ride schedule administration system, a mechanism on our site will publish that person's name and allow that person to be contacted via e-mail by the general public without publishing his/her address on our web site. If the member chooses to reply to the e-mail, the original sender will see the member's e-mail address.

All personal information given to the club is deemed to be public to other club members, except user names and passwords. User names are only visible to the RBC staff and passwords are encrypted and known only to the originating member. Personal information is never given to the general public. RBC may aggregate membership information for public release, but it would not contain any personally identifying information.

Opt-out options

Members can request that RBC not disclose their personal information to other RBC members, or any other groups, by visiting our web site or by contacting the Membership Officer. Former members that do not want RBC to retain their personal information should contact the Membership Officer.
